In addition, every payment made with American Express earns Membership Rewards bonus points, which can be converted into miles with partner airlines such as SWISS, British Airways, Air France–KLM, or Delta. Platinum Card members also benefit from up to 20 percent off tickets from select airlines, plus an annual SWISS flight voucher and comprehensive travel insurance.
Free access to the airport lounge
With the American Express Platinum Card, you can spend your time before your flight in one of over 1,800 elegant airport lounges. The card includes “Priority Pass Prestige” membership, which provides unlimited access to airport lounges at over 500 airports worldwide. Holders of the companion card also have free access.
With the Gold Card, you can also become a Priority Pass member; this includes two free visits per year, with each additional visit available at a discounted rate of USD 35.
Which lounge networks are specifically accessible?
Platinum Card holders have access to the following networks:
Priority Pass: over 1,800 lounges worldwide, regardless of airline or ticket class
- Centurion Lounges: exclusive American Express lounges at select airports such as Sydney or Denver
- Plaza Premium Lounges: an independent lounge network at numerous international airports
- Delta Sky Club: on select flights
Access to an Air France lounge is available with the Platinum Card or Gold Card if the lounge at the respective airport is part of the Priority Pass network. You can check in advance whether this is the case directly on the “Priority Pass” website or via the Priority Pass app.
Travel insurance: coverage for flight delays, cancellations, and lost luggage
Delays, cancellations, and lost luggage are among the biggest annoyances of flying. If you pay for your flight with the Gold Card or Platinum Card, you’re automatically covered by a comprehensive travel insurance package:
- Travel Inconvenience Insurance covers additional costs for meals, hotel accommodation, or alternative travel arrangements if your departure is delayed by at least four hours, your flight is canceled or overbooked, or you miss your connecting flight and no alternative is offered within four hours.
- Luggage insurance reimburses costs for necessary replacement purchases in the event of delayed or lost luggage.
- Transport Accident Insurance covers you in the event of an accident while traveling by public transportation, including airplanes.
Fly with American Express and enjoy the benefits
With American Express, you enjoy benefits right from the moment you purchase your flight tickets. As a Platinum Cardholder, you receive an annual voucher worth CHF 100 for flights with SWISS.
If you book your flight through the Platinum Travel & Lifestyle Service, you’ll receive up to 20 percent off tickets in Economy, Business, or First Class through the International Airline Program on select airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, and ITA Airways, as well as on select routes with SWISS, Edelweiss, Lufthansa, and Austrian Airlines.
How to convert Membership Rewards into flight miles
With American Express, you earn Membership Rewards bonus points with every purchase. You can convert these points into miles through the rewards shop of select frequent flyer programs – the conversion is always handled by the airlines or their frequent flyer programs. To transfer the points, you must be a member of the respective airline’s frequent flyer program.
You can redeem points with these airlines:
- SWISS Miles & More: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 mile
- British Airways The British Airways Club: 3 Membership Rewards points = 2 Avios
- Air France–KLM Flying Blue: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 mile
- Delta Air Lines SkyMiles: 2 Membership Rewards points = 1 mile
You don’t need a separate frequent flyer program account to earn Miles & More miles. You can easily transfer your Membership Rewards points directly to your Miles & More account at a two-to-one ratio in the Premium Shop. The transfer can be done conveniently online in your card account under the menu item “Convert Points to Miles.”
