Accident insurance from American Express
Transport Accident Insurance comes into effect if something happens to you on public transport. It is included with all American Express credit cards. Find out how the insurance works and why it makes sense here.

Benefits of Transport Accident Insurance
Transport Accident Insurance covers accidents that occur while using public transport – anywhere in the world. This not only includes buses and trains, but also airplanes, ships, cabs and rental cars.
If you are injured on a train journey, for example, the Transport Accident Insurance will pay compensation within the scope of the insurance conditions and help cover the costs of medical treatment. If disability occurs as a result of the accident or the insured person even dies, the insurance company will also contribute in accordance with its terms and conditions.
Such a policy is particularly useful in connection with a trip.
Transport Accident Insurance included with American Express
American Express Cardholders are automatically insured through their credit card. Transport Accident Insurance is included with all five credit cards. These are:
- BLUE from American Express
- American Express Card
- American Express Gold Card
- American Express Platinum Card
The insurance covers accidents on public transport, including boarding and alighting. The insurance takes effect as soon as you pay at least 50 percent of the tickets for the means of transport used with your American Express Card before the start of the journey.
In addition to the principal or additional cardholder, a spouse or partner living in the same household and dependent children are also insured.
Good to know: Entry-level models such as BLUE from American Express have a lower level of cover than premium cards such as the American Express Gold Card or Platinum Card.
The insurance benefits differ depending on the credit card and may vary. Please refer to the respective insurance conditions for details.
