Everything you need to know at a glance

A treehouse hotel brings comfort to the great outdoors and turns an overnight stay high up in the treetops into a special travel experience. In Europe, the selection ranges from luxurious designer treehouses in Swedish Lapland to romantic tree castles in France and family-friendly cabins in Switzerland.

Many of these treetop hotels offer extras such as private spas, panoramic terraces, regional cuisine, or unique nature experiences like the Northern Lights, forest scenery, or views of wolves. Whether it’s a romantic getaway for two, a family adventure, or a stylish retreat—treehouse hotels show just how beautiful and varied sleeping in nature can be.

“Treehotel Harads”: A Designer Treehouse Hotel in Swedish Lapland

Nestled in the heart of the Norrland forest, not far from the Arctic Circle, lies what is arguably the world’s most iconic treehouse hotel: the “Treehotel” in Harads. High up in the pine tree canopies are seven tree rooms designed by renowned Scandinavian designers. Among them are the mirrored “Mirrorcube,” “The Bird’s Nest,” and “The UFO.”

At the historic guesthouse, menus are carefully crafted using regional ingredients. In summer, the menu features light, fresh dishes with vegetables and forest treasures; in winter, hearty, rich flavors from preserved ingredients. The house specialty is game meat. Arctic char, Kalix caviar, salmon, moose, and reindeer showcase the very best the North has to offer.

Staying in the treehouse is an experience in itself. In addition, the surrounding nature offers plenty of opportunities to get active: In the summer, you can go canoeing and mountain biking and fish on the Lule River; in the winter, you can go on dog-sled tours and Northern Lights safaris, as well as dine under the starry sky on a frozen lake.

Interesting fact: You can reach the treehouse hotel in Sweden via the airport in Luleå. With the Platinum Card and the included “Priority Pass” membership, you’ll enjoy access to comfortable airport lounges worldwide. For the one-hour drive to Harads by rental car, you’ll benefit from status perks at Avis, Hertz, or SIXT

At One with Nature

The hotel complex not only blends harmoniously into the forest visually, but also emphasizes a conscientious approach to nature and its resources. Locally grown produce forms the basis of the cuisine.

“HochLeger TreeLofts”: A Luxurious Treehouse Hotel in Austria

At 1,054 meters above the Zillertal, nestled among ancient larch and pine trees, stand three extraordinary treehouses: the “TreeLofts” of the “HochLeger Luxury Chalet Resort.”

Built on stilts, the treehouses—with their slanted wooden walls—feature chic double beds made of Swiss stone pine, spacious south-facing terraces, and a magnificent panoramic view of the valley. Each of the three lofts is individually designed and measures up to 32 square meters.

The alpine breakfast at the historic “MartinerHof” right next door includes fresh bread, Zillertal milk, and homemade jams made from regional fruits. The on-site wellness area features a Swiss stone pine sauna, an organic swimming pond, a whirlpool, and a hay-bed relaxation room. The nearby “Posthotel Zell am Ziller” also opens its boutique spa to “HochLeger” guests.

Interesting fact:

The lofts at “HochLeger TreeLofts” are named “FideliO,” “PapagenA,” and “PapagenO”—a tribute to Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”

“Châteaux dans les Arbres”: A Romantic Treehouse Hotel in France

In the heart of the Périgord, on the sprawling “Domaine de Puybeton,” lies one of the most romantic treehouse hotels in Europe: carpenter and visionary Rémi Becherel has created six extraordinary tree cabins on the site of a former feudal estate—the “Castles in the Trees”—each inspired by a real castle in the Dordogne.

The treehouses are crafted from natural materials and blend seamlessly into their surroundings. At the heart of these little castles are the mighty trunks of oak trees, whose branches are sometimes incorporated into the interior design. Each accommodation is equipped with a private spa bath and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the forests and rolling hills. The heated outdoor pool is open from May through September. Activities such as horseback riding, ATV tours, or hot-air balloon rides can be arranged through the hotel.

Your stay in one of the treehouses includes a breakfast basket with pastries, bread, butter, jams, and other treats, which is delivered to your little castle each morning. You also have the option to order a bistro platter, aperitif, or a basket of local specialties; a wine list is also available in your room.

“Tree Inn” in Germany: Sleep Among Wolves

If you’d like to be woken up by the howling of a wolf pack from a safe distance, the “Tree Inn” at the Wolfcenter in Dörverden, Lower Saxony, is the perfect place for you. The treehouses, situated five meters above the ground, offer a direct view into the enclosure housing native gray wolves, white Hudson Bay wolves, and white Canadian wolves.

The accommodations at this treehouse hotel are of a high standard, some featuring amenities such as a hot tub. However, the focus is on the unique nature experience with the wolves. The grounds also feature a water adventure and climbing area for children, as well as enclosures with alpacas, goats, prairie dogs, and foxes.

Interesting fact:

There are photo hatches in the treehouses. This allows you to photograph these impressive animals without any distracting fences or glass.

“Loire Valley Lodges”: A Digital Detox

The “Loire Valley Lodges” were founded by Parisian art dealer Anne-Caroline Frey. Nestled in the heart of a 300-hectare private forest near Esvres, close to Saint-Pierre-des-Corps—just two and a half hours from Paris—18 treehouses are hidden among Douglas firs, chestnut trees, and oaks.

Each lodge was designed by contemporary artists, who have left their distinctive mark through graffiti, photography, and sculpture. Large panoramic windows offer a direct view into the treetops. A private spa awaits on every terrace.

The concept of this treehouse hotel is deliberately digital-free: no TV, no Wi-Fi in the lodges—just nature, art, and a walkie-talkie to contact the front desk. Breakfast baskets are delivered to your door each morning. And in the evening, the restaurant serves high-quality French cuisine.

“Les Cabanes du Mont”: A Family-Friendly Treehouse Hotel in Switzerland

Hidden in the beech forest above the village of Coeuve in the Jura are four charming treehouses for the whole family: “Les Cabanes du Mont.” The accommodations are perched three meters above the ground and feature rustic furnishings. You’ll sleep in a Swiss natural bed from Hüsler Nest. The four treehouses offer covered terraces with views of the beech tree canopy.

Picnic baskets filled with regional specialties, as well as meals delivered directly to your treehouse upon request—including an excellent fondue—ensure you’re well fed.

If you’d like to combine your stay at this treehouse hotel with an extraordinary culinary experience, you should reserve a table at “Maison Wenger.” It’s one of the best restaurants in Switzerland and is located in Le Noirmont, about a 40-minute drive away, deep in the Franches-Montagnes.

Chef Jérémy Desbraux has earned the restaurant 18 GaultMillau points and two Michelin stars. He was named “Chef of the Year 2026” by GaultMillau. As a Platinum Cardholder, you’ll enjoy various benefits here and at other select GaultMillau restaurants in Switzerland, such as credit and reservations through the Platinum Travel & Lifestyle Service.

Interesting fact: For excursions in the surrounding area, we recommend the historic old town of Porrentruy, the Jurassica Museum with its dinosaur fossils, and tours along the horseback riding and hiking trails through the rolling hills of the Ajoie Valley.
