Ristorante L’altro, Zurich
Whether it’s the wood-paneled restaurant inside, or the shady garden outside: L’altro exudes authentic italianità in the very heart of Zurich. And it’s been doing so for nearly two decades.
Italianità beyond the clichés
Wood. Lots of wood. And pictures. Lots of pictures. The atmosphere at L’altro is cozy and cinematic at the same time. The stars of the show, however, are the Italian classics, which are prepared and served with meticulous attention to detail. What’s on offer ranges from Ossobuco della Nonna and grilled prawns, through to Costoletta with fresh wild mushrooms and Saltimbocca alla Romana. The menu is extensive, and the philosophy behind it is clear: Only dishes that the L’altro family itself loves make it onto the plates. It’s a passion you can taste – and one that has long since made this traditional restaurant famous far beyond the Zurich-Enge neighborhood.
What do the guests order, what does the chef love?
The chef tells us that the diners often decide to start with the warm octopus on vegetable jardinière. For the main course, the veal cutlet with sage butter is a popular choice. The chef himself would go for the veal ravioli with sage butter as a starter. This would be accompanied by delicate pasta which is freshly prepared each day at L’altro according to an old family recipe. And as his piatto principale? "Sole fillet with lemon risotto," he says without hesitation. It’s a favorite dish that has been part of his life for a long, long time.
