Everything You Need to Know at a Glance
Winterthur offers excellent gourmet experiences at several restaurants recognized by GaultMillau. “Rosa Pulver” tops the list with 15 points and impresses with its consistent “nose-to-tail” concept and regional, biodynamic ingredients. With 14 points, “Das Taggenberg” offers upscale, natural cuisine with panoramic views, while “National,” located right at the train station, scores 13 points with a blend of Swiss and Mediterranean cuisine.
"Rosa Pulver": from nose to tail and root to leaf
Started as a pop-up project, "Rosa Pulver" has established itself in Winterthur's gastronomic scene. Head chef Michael Dober has always remained true to his principles. His sustainable dishes have earned him 14 and now even 15 points in the GaultMillau restaurant guide.
For the operators, high enjoyment has nothing to do with silver cutlery and exclusively luxury food. It has more to do with the quality of the produce, which is mainly sourced regionally, often from small, biodynamic farms. Or they are collected themselves. In the kitchen of the "Rosa Pulver", as much as possible is used, from nose to tail and root to leaf.
The restaurant's menu is constantly adapted to the seasons and the availability of regional produce. Let yourself be surprised: in the form of a menu of four, five or seven courses, conventional or vegetarian. During the week, you can also choose from "Die Kleine Rosa", a simpler menu for spontaneous visits.
Nice to know
In March 2026, the “Trübli” – which until then had boasted the title of Winterthur’s best GaultMillau restaurant with 16 points – was forced to close its doors for good. The team was unable to continue operating the restaurant because it would have required too much investment.
Now there’s good news for everyone who appreciates the fine cuisine of Chef Alexander Bindig. He currently runs the museum café at the Oskar Reinhart Collection “Am Römerholz.” If you’re in the mood for more than just coffee, stop by in the evening, when the venue transforms into a fine-dining restaurant called “Reineke” and serves a dinner featuring a surprise menu.
"Das Taggenberg": Culinary craftsmanship and a magnificent view
For many years, the small but exquisite menu of the restaurant "Das Taggenberg" has stood for upscale cuisine based on regional and seasonal ingredients. Beautifully situated in the countryside between mountain and valley, the terrace offers a magnificent view of nature and the city of Winterthur.
Almost all creations at "Das Taggenberg" are vegetarian, although you can choose meat or fish as components for the dishes. GaultMillau recently awarded 14 points for the culinary skills of the kitchen crew at this outstanding restaurant in Winterthur.
In the evening, the "Menu Surprise du Chef" with four delicious courses is recommended, and at lunchtime you can also come for a business lunch. From Tuesday to Friday there is also a selection of à la carte dishes.
“National”: A Culinary Delight in a Central Location
Located right next to Winterthur’s main train station, the “National” restaurant treats you to a blend of Mediterranean and Swiss cuisine and boasts a 13-point rating from GaultMillau. In the bright, spacious dining room, you can enjoy an excellent lunch or dinner. On the first floor, you’ll also find an elegant lounge with a fireplace and a bar.
The menu at “National” features appetizers, salads, and soups, as well as fish, meat, and pasta dishes. The beef tartare, prepared and finished at your table, comes highly recommended. A vegan option is also available upon request. The menu is complemented by seasonal specialties and desserts. In addition, “National” offers a business lunch that changes weekly.
