Madonna RistoBar, Zürich
Gelati, Campari and Pasta di Casa: At the Madonna RistoBar, the lines between café, restaurant and bar seem to blur. And sometimes, the lines between an apéro and dinner do too.
From espresso to nightcap
Those unfamiliar with the term "ristobar" are certain to have a grasp of the concept after visiting the recently opened Madonna. In Italy, a ristobar describes a place that is many things at once: a café, a restaurant, a bar – and a vibrant meeting place. And that’s just the atmosphere that the new Madonna brings to the heart of Zurich. In the morning, there’s espresso; at lunchtime, freshly made panini and homemade pasta; while in the evening, those in the mood to relax can do so over a Spritz or Negroni. It’s the perfect spot for a spontaneous apéro with friends – and for whatever else the evening might have in store.
Simplicity as the concept
The menu at the Madonna combines Italian classics with simple hospitality. The panini are freshly prepared at the counter; the pasta is homemade. The gelato from Puro&Bio, a gelateria from Romagna that has focused on artisanal production and natural ingredients for many years, is especially popular. It’s great to enjoy with a Campari, a cocktail or a coffee from the Bernese roastery OJO de Café. And those who feel like it can also take their treats to go – to the park at the Old Botanical Gardens across the street, for example.
