Restaurant Oberstadt, Baden
The Restaurant Oberstadt combines an art nouveau ambience with historical murals and slow food cuisine which is consciously contemporary.
Culinary delight with an impressive past
A short walk from Bahnhofplatz square in Baden is a culinary destination steeped in history. The building boasts a long past, and has been home to a restaurant since 1897. Its distinctive tower still defines the neighborhood to this day, while freshly restored murals evoke centuries past. At the same time, the restaurant feels remarkably contemporary: light, open, and pleasantly understated.
The Restaurant Oberstadt embraces the philosophy of "slow food". Seasonal menus with classic and vegan interpretations are offered, accompanied by carefully chosen wines or non-alcoholic pairings. The interplay between the stylish art nouveau interior and the verdant terrace is especially pleasant. On balmy summer evenings, Baden suddenly takes something of a Mediterranean feel.
Seasonal, rooted in the region and rigorous from a sense of conviction
Tim Munz and Viktor Berger have been bringing a new sparkle to the Restaurant Oberstadt since 2021. Munz, with 15 GaultMillau points to his name, once trained under Andreas Caminada – and has since developed his own distinctive style. Together with his team, he creates new culinary experiences each and every month: seasonal, rooted in the region, with rigorous attention to detail, and with all his enthusiasm.
In the evenings, six-course menus of the season take center stage. At lunchtime, the restaurant has a lighter, more spontaneous feel: seasonal dishes for a quick lunch as well as leisurely midday meals with wine pairings. Those dining here quickly realize: For the team at the Restaurant Oberstadt, slow food isn’t just a moniker, it’s a conviction. On this note: Enjoy your meal, or, as it is said here, "En Guete!".
