Two buildings as a stage for chef Stefan Heilemann

The Widder is a gourmet restaurant that spans two of the nine buildings that make up the luxurious boutique hotel Widder: the Kleiner Widder and the Haus zum Bauknecht. As head chef, Stefan Heilemann attaches great importance to craftsmanship in order to get the best out of the excellent products.

The Widder restaurant, located near the Limmat River in the center of Zurich, serves elegant dishes that blend classic and modern styles. The culinary influences come from various countries, with a strong emphasis on Thai cuisine.

Heilemann's technical skills are so excellent that the Michelin Guide 2025 awarded two stars and GaultMillau 18 points to the Widder restaurant. This makes the Widder not only one of the best GaultMillau restaurants in Zurich, but in the whole of Switzerland.

Duck, grouse, or turbot?

From Wednesday to Saturday, Widder offers a choice of four to six-course menus. This does not include the trio of French free-range duck served as an appetizer. A vegetarian version of the menu is also available.

If you prefer to order à la carte, you can follow the chef's recommendations, such as ordering a whole turbot stuffed with langoustines. Scottish moorhen is also very popular.

Interesting fact:

On Thursdays and Fridays, the Widder restaurant offers a business lunch. Heilemann's team serves a cross-section of the tasting menu: finger food to whet your appetite, followed by four courses. You should allow 90 minutes for this.

Chef's Table and Widder Bar

If you want to sit in the best seats in the restaurant, you should reserve early: this will give you a place at the chef's table, which offers a direct view of the open kitchen. Then you can experience first-hand how the kitchen crew conjures up culinary masterpieces for you.

After your meal, why not pop into the Widder Bar, located one floor below? This iconic establishment features time-honored wooden beams, red leather, and a lapis lazuli wall. In terms of quality, the cocktails are every bit as good as the food you've just enjoyed.

The Widder Bar offers a selection of more than 650 whiskeys and more than twice as many spirits. There is usually live piano music.

Interesting fact: as a Platinum Card member of American Express, your culinary experience at the Widder is rounded off with a dining credit. You can use this directly for another dinner at GaultMillau restaurants throughout Switzerland.
