Did you know that the painter Paul Klee was also a passionate violinist? His instrument is on display at the Zentrum Paul Klee, and those who explore the "Kosmos Klee" collection encounter his music at every turn: in the titles of portraits, in musical score, and in the rhythm of his visual compositions. At 5 p.m. in the museum’s auditorium on November 21 and 22, it is therefore fitting that the CAMERATA BERN ensemble will provide an apt finale to museum visits.
The Kunstmuseum Bern, meanwhile, is taking a fresh look at Franz Gertsch, a pioneer of photorealism. The exhibition focuses on monumental works depicting the music and youth culture of the 1970s. Fittingly, the exhibition takes its name from a cult film from 1966: Blow-Up. In that film, the enlargement of photographs and the music of the era also play a central role. The exhibition runs until January 17, 2027.
The GAIA Music Festival opens on November 26 at 6:30 p.m. On the opening evening, the audience moves from one stage to the next: from the Museum of Communication to the ALPS Swiss Alpine Museum and to the Media Library at PHBern. A half-hour classical concert will take place at each venue. The evening concludes with an aperitif with the musicians.
By the way: On November 13, a string quartet perfectly suited to Paul Klee will be performing just under forty kilometers west of Bern at the Château Salavaux – illuminated only by candles. Those spending the afternoon exploring Bern’s museums can dine at the Château from 6:30 p.m. and enjoy the Candlelit Concert with Quatuor Amoroso at 8:30 p.m. After the final notes, the hotel room is just a short walk away. American Express Cardholders enjoy a 20% discount on an overnight stay at Château Salavaux, including breakfast and a three-course meal. View the offer here.
