Golden days for fans of culture

From September 25 to October 5, Zurich Film Festival brings the glamour of Hollywood to the city on the Limmat. That means it’s time to raise the curtain on some 100 movies – including exciting world and European premieres. And when the red carpet is rolled out, you might just see stars such as Colin Farrell, Dakota Johnson and others in person. For those who prefer to see great stories on the stage rather than the big screen, though, the Schauspielhaus Zürich is opening its doors. The new season starts at the end of September. And the best part: as an American Express cardholder, you can enjoy a 20% discount on all Tuesday and Wednesday performances (excluding premieres).

The excitement continues with exclusive advantages: Whether it’s the spectacular Titanic exhibition with 360° projections or the hit musical "Billy Elliot" – MAAG Shows offers you a 20% discount. And with a little luck, you can enjoy the latest movies fun at Arena Cinemas with a 50% discount – including LED technology, a 270° panorama or a 4DX experience. Or would you prefer a more intellectual experience? Then the "Zürich liest" book festival is your cultural highlight: From October 21 to 26, over 200 readings at some 100 locations in and around the city invite you to immerse yourself – with many free of charge.

Another true gem of the city on the Limmat River is the Rietberg Museum, which nestles in the heart of Zurich’s largest landscaped garden. Its exhibitions are world-famous. Starting on September 26, it is presenting another highlight entitled "Japan de luxe", showcasing first-rate Japanese color woodblock prints. It’s also worth taking a look at the calendar at the Löwenbräukunst Art Center, where the fall season starts on September 26 and 27 with five new exhibitions and a large opening party.

Savoring the good times in style

After so much culture, do you feel like reflecting on your impressions together? Then the stylish Bar am Wasser between the Limmat and Bürkliplatz is the perfect place. And even though the cocktail menu runs to many pages, you don’t come here just because you’re thirsty. This is the kind of place where you can see why the term "bar culture" was invented. And if the conversation lasts a little longer, the team at AMEO restaurant in Zurich’s 3rd district will be happy to present you with an elegantly composed four to six-course menu. The changing art on the walls provides additional conversational material. At the Rechberg 1837 restaurant in Zurich’s Old Town, culture and cuisine also go hand in hand: This is a place where modern Swiss cuisine meets a historic ambience – as well as great acts from the local music scene.

Staying in the city on the Limmat

Culture and indulgence until late at night – followed by a relaxing stay at a hotel? Sounds like a great plan. Benefit now from attractive special rates at three of our favorite hotels: At the Boutique & Art Hotel Helvetia – here, striking architecture, creative cuisine and contemporary art merge to create a unique experience. At the B2 Hotel Zurich – on the grounds of the Löwenbräukunst Art Center, industrial history and design classics form a successful combination. Or at The Dolder Grand – a world-famous luxury city resort with an opulent art collection and spectacular views of Zurich, the lake and the Alps. And the next day? Simply start all over again!

Wine experiences in vineyards – and at home

Zurich’s bars and restaurants are wonderful – but would you prefer to enjoy wine where it originates? With the motto the "Grape Escape", Switzerland Tourism offers around 60 places to stay in the heart of the vineyards – or with views of them. From boutique hotels to Räbhüsli – traditional winemakers’ cottages – everything is included. Plus: guided tours and highlights for wine lovers from all six Swiss wine regions. Nature in its most beautiful fall colors and wonderful wines to enthuse over are ever present. What’s the right way to store these fine wines at home, though? With SWISSCAVE, you don’t need a vaulted cellar; the sophisticated wine fridges use precise technology to ensure the perfect temperature. With an American Express Card, you even get a 10% discount.

Fall is here – and it’s great!
